April Verch Band

April VerchOntario, Canada - For over a decade now, April Verch has mesmerized audiences with her fiddling virtuosity, flawless step dancing and soulful vocals. The April Verch Band entrances audiences around the world with their skill, energy and charm, touring on average, 250 days a year. This year they toured in China and next year they'll return to Australia. On her brand new (eighth) release, "That’s How We Run", the April Verch Band swaps hot licks with guests, like Riley Baugus, Dirk Powell, Bobby Hicks and Rayna Gellert.

"She digs deep into the heart of traditional music and melds influences from her native Ottawa Valley with those of the Appalachian mountains mixing in other styles such as funk, jazz, and Eastern European motifs in her fine bluegrass fiddling, but even traditionalists will find much to admire in the mix of folk and original tunes on this disc." - Sean Hickey, Daily Local News

April Verch’s Heartland Expedition

April Verch's Heartland ExpeditionAn extraordinary chance to hear history entwined with the present as this first class line up of multi-instrumentalist musicians explore the regional evolution of one of North America’s richest veins of folk music. A walk down the trail of Appalachia to Ottawa Valley and Quebec with a compliment of Riley Baugus (Alison Krauss, Willie Nelson), Sammy Lind (Foghorn Trio, Dirk Powell), April Verch Band and Andre Brunet (La Bottine Souriante).

Spring Breakup

Spring BreakupYukon & Nfld, Canada -  "Bitter and heartbroken? Buck up, buttercup: Spring Breakup are here to help. This gloriously glum musical combo couch sad and cynical observations about love in keen wit, perky banjo- and ukulele-based arrangements and sweetly fingerpicked guitar." - Rachel Sanders, Exclaim!

When Mathias Kom, an up-and-coming indie-rock star with his large, fun band The Burning Hell, teams up with Kim Barlow, well known on the folk-circuit in Canada for her solo work (with five CDs released since 1998), their chemistry on stage is palpable. They create an engaging musical tension with their very pretty, subtle, and often hilarious songs.

"Perverse, yes, but somehow perfect." – Edmonton Journal

Tony McManus

Tony McManus and the Grainger BrothersCanada/Scotland - Through the guitar hands of Scots born Tony McManus emotions of Celtic music are transferred while the listener is drawn into the driving energy of a reel or the timeless atmosphere of a lament. New on stage in trio format with with Greg Grainger and Gary Grainger. Tony recently made a guest appearance on Loreena McKennett’s new release, "The Wind That Shakes the Barley". In his own latest release, "The Maker’s Mark", (CFMA awarded Instrumental Solo Artist of the Year 2010), he explores harmonies from South Africa, the strange scales and rhythms of Eastern Europe and an achingly beautiful Baroque madrigal.

"Best Celtic Guitarist in the World" says John Renbourn (Pentangle).

Maeve Mackinnon

Maeve MckinnonScotland - 2012 will herald the much-awaited release of a second album by award-winning Scottish songstress Maeve Mackinnon. The new album is a heady, exciting concoction of songs in English and Gaelic, containing echoes of her much praised debut “Don’t Sing Lovesongs”, overtones of jazz and blues, and as Maeve laughingly admits, “We have gone a wee bit electric!”

Joining her in the studio has been Angus Lyon on production and virtuoso accordion, world-class multi-instrumentalist Innes Watson and many other exciting special guests...

Maeve will be returning with the trio and new album for a second festival season to Canada!

Annie Lou

Yukon, Canada - After a couple of great seasons touring their Juno nominated debut album, Annie Lou is excited to be going back into the studio with more strong songwriting and hearty old-time tunes composed by Yukon musicians Anne Louise Genest and Kim Barlow. Sprinkle on top achievements of the 2010 Western Canadian Music Award (Roots Duo/Group Album of the Year) and 2009 Canadian Folk Music Award nomination (Ensemble of the Year), plus appearances at major Canadian folk festivals in 2010 and 2011, and Annie Lou is making their mark, for good reason, in Canadian roots music.

Steve Dawson

Steve Dawson BC, Canada - In 2011 The Globe & Mail named Dawson as one of the “10 people who shaped Vancouver.” Over the past decade or so Steve Dawson has become an indelible fixture on the Canadian musical landscape. Achievements recognized by 7 Juno awards (16 Nominations), 11 WCMA awards (37 nominations). He is kept very busy producing memorable albums by such luminaries as Jim Byrnes, Kelly Joe Phelps, Old Man Luedecke, The Sojourners, and The Deep Dark Woods, as well as bringing the award winning Mississippi Sheiks Tribute Project to fruition.

Dawson is comfortable in almost any musical setting you could name, and his newest album, “Nightshade” draws from these many interests to form his most satisfyingly complete album to date. In support of "Nightshade", Steve Dawson will be touring with a trio for 2012 festival appearances.

“Mr. Dawson is the T-Bone Burnett of Canada...” — No Depression Magazine.
